ODESSA MAN CHARGED WITH FELONIES AFTER ALLEGEDLY CRASHING VEHICLE INTO TACO JOHN’S BUILDING

An Odessa resident has been charged with multiple felonies after allegedly driving his vehicle into the side wall of a business and driving off on Monday, October 9, 2017.

According to a probable-cause statement, an employee at Taco John’s in Odessa alleged that a vehicle had crashed into the building and driven off.

A Lafayette County Deputy pulled over a vehicle with the matching license-plate number and description given by the employee later that evening. The deputy reported the vehicle had been driven erratically from lane to lane on the roadway. The deputy reportedly looked at the scene of the reported accident and noted some of the damage to be: a large concrete table and two benches to be damaged; another bench was destroyed; and a hole was knocked in the side of the building.

Online court documents say the driver of the vehicle, 36-year-old Adriaan Joost Vanberge, has been charged with Class E Felonies for Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Causing Property Damage Exceeding $1,000; Resisting or Interfering with an Arrest for a Felony; and Driving While Revoked or Suspended; and a misdemeanor. Bond was set at $20,000 cash or surety with special conditions.

A future date for Vanberge at Lafayette County Circuit Court in Lexington is pending.
