JURY TRIAL FOR WARRENSBURG MAN ACCUSED OF SEX-RELATED FELONIES INVOLVING JUVENILES PUSHED BACK

One of two Warrensburg residents who has been charged with multiple felonies for alleged child abuse in Johnson County appeared for a court proceeding on Monday, November 13.

The charges arose as on April 3, 39-year-old Robert L. Brown and 34-year-old Brandi Edmiston allegedly had locked two juveniles in their rooms using padlocks. According to another probable-cause statement, on May 11, law enforcement spoke with one of the juveniles, who reportedly disclosed that Brown allegedly had committed multiple sexual acts on different occasions on each alleged victim.

According to updated online court documents, Brown faces seven counts of an Unclassified Felony for First-Degree Statutory Sodomy- Deviate Sexual Intercourse with a Person Less than 14 years old and two counts of an Unclassified Felony for First-Degree Statutory Sodomy- Deviate Sexual Intercourse with a Person Less than 12 years old. During his arraignment hearing on June 12, Brown reportedly entered a plea of not guilty. Bond was amended to $250,000 cash only.

During Monday’s court proceeding, the judge announced Brown’s jury trial– which originally was set to begin on December 12– has been pushed back and now is slated to start at 9 a.m. on February 27, 2018, at the Johnson County Justice Center in Warrensburg. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on January 8, 2018.

Court documents say Edmiston has been charged with four counts of a Class D Felony for Abuse or Neglect of a Child- No Sexual Contact; two counts of a Class D Felony for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Creating a Substantial Risk in the First Degree- No Sexual Contact; two counts of a Class D Felony for Tampering with a Witness in a Felony Prosecution; and two misdemeanors. Her case is scheduled for review on February 13, and a pre-trial conference is scheduled for March 12, 2018, at the justice center.
