A Sweet Springs man who allegedly assaulted a woman on January 21 has been charged with a felony.
According to a probable-cause statement, James Duncan is alleged to have struck the woman with his fists repeatedly; thrown her across the kitchen, causing her to strike a sink and the floor; thrown her down a staircase; and repeatedly grabbed her by her throat. The woman reportedly suffered serious physical injury, including blood showing up in her urine and a fractured wrist. Duncan reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle, while being intoxicated, with his 16-year-old autistic son in the vehicle.
Online court documents say a warrant has been issued, and Duncan has been charged with a Class D Felony for Domestic Assault in the Second Degree. Bond has been set at $15,000 cash or surety, with conditions including not to have any contact with the alleged victim.
Duncan’s arraignment hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23, at Saline County Circuit Court in Marshall.
