As a part of National Work Zone Awareness Week, MoDOT wants to remind motorists to slow down and not be distracted when driving through work zone areas.
According to a news release, Motorists are urged to observe work zone signs as construction in those area can change traffic conditions. A couple of major factors in work zone crashes are motorists who are driving too fast or who are distracted by their cell phones. In 2017, 16 people were killed in work zone crashes on state and local routes in Missouri.
Several major roadways are scheduled to have numerous work zones set up throughout the state until this fall, which includes I-70 and U.S. Highway 65.
