KMMO Air Staff

Brian Sowers - Morning Show Host,  Ag Director, Co-host of In The Outdoors

Brian, host of The Morning Show heard Monday through Saturday from 5:30 to 10:00 AM on KMMO, is a lifelong Waverly resident. Brian started as a part time announcer in 1987 and has been at KMMO full or part time since.

Brian took over the Morning Show in Dec. of 2000 and continues to wake-up the listeners with four and a half hours of variety with information, weather, fun, and laughs. Brain also serves as the Ag. Director airing reports at 6:50 AM and 12:25 PM. In his spare time, Brian is active within the local FFA chapters and co-hosts the “In the Outdoors with Brad and Brian” program on Sunday nights from 7 to 8 PM on KMMO.

Brian really enjoys going out on location and meeting all the listeners. He spends his time away from the station with his family including his grandson, Blake, and can usually be found on the water somewhere, most of the time with a rod and reel in hand.

Ken Lewellen - News Director

Ken Lewellen is a Saline county native, graduating from Missouri Valley College in 1968 with a Major in History and a Political Science Minor. He is also a long time voice of KMMO, lending his expertise to KMMO since, 1967, with a break between December of 1972 and July of 1981.

As KMMO’s News Director, Ken spends his days and sometimes his nights collecting information, writing and delivering news casts, and assigning stories to his cohort in the newsroom, Andy.

Beyond the newsroom, Ken enjoys reading and gardening, but only deals with sturdy plants that can survive on their own. He has also done a bit of traveling, backpacking through Europe in 1971, visiting England, France, Germany, and Northern Italy.

Andy Pulverenti - Newscaster

Andy is originally from Omaha, Nebraska.  He went to college at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, where he began his path towards a career in radio.  Andy graduated with a B.S. degree in Communications, and along with it a wealth of experience in the broadcasting world.

Andy is the afternoon and early evening newscaster at KMMO, learning the ropes from our esteemed News Director, Ken Lewellen.  Occasionally he also dabbles into sports broadcasting. Listen to his newscast at 30 minutes past during the 12, 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 o'clock hours.

If Andy is not at work, he’s probably out running, training for his next half-marathon.  Recently Andy became married, and lives with his wife, two dogs, and cat in Higginsville.  If he’s feeling lazy Andy can be found enjoying a Bearcat, Husker, Chiefs, Chelsea, or Royals game with family and friends.

Josh Ryan - Mid-day 10 to 3
Josh Ryan was born on March 10th, 1983 in St. Louis, MO. He grew up in O’Fallon, MO, for most of his life and graduated from Fort Zumwalt West High School in May of 2001. In 2002, Josh moved to Fergus Falls, MN, where he attended Minnesota State Community and Technical College before finally moving back to Missouri in the summer of 2005. In 2006, Josh found his calling and began attending the Broadcast Center in St. Louis, MO. Shortly after graduation in the winter of 2007, Josh began his radio career and moved to Marshall to work for KMMO.

When Josh isn’t working to be the best (haha!) he enjoys spending time with his family. His girlfriend, Lauren, his son Coy and his daughter Brooklyn all live in Marshall as well. Josh is a huge sports fan (and so his entire family!), an avid reader, and even a gamer (video games are quite popular in Josh’s home!). Radio has always been a passion of Josh’s (starting at about the age of 8 when he would announce St. Louis Blues hockey games on his TV at home), and he one day hopes to become an anchor for either ESPN radio or television. KMMO is a great place to work, and Josh enjoys his time in Marshall on and off the air.

Lou Michaels - Afternoons 3 to 8

Lou grew up in St. Louis and was drawn to radio at an early age. After finishing high school, he went to the Broadcast Center. In August of '99, he headed off to his first assignment in radio: the afternoon shift at KIKS in Iola, Kansas. He spent three years there before moving back to his home state of Missouri. For one year, he was the afternoon announcer for KPCR in Bowling Green. He was out of radio for nearly three years before accepting a job at KMMO in Marshall. He served as the overnight announcer for the first seven months of his tenure, he then moved to the afternoon slot. Lou also serves as Music Director and host of the Community Spotlight. You can catch him Friday nights on the Pigskin Postgame or Roundball Wrapup, depending on the season.

Away from the job, Lou enjoys movies, karaoke and community theater. He's a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan but also roots for the Royals (except when they're playing the Cardinals). Lou's family is spread out across the country: his mom lives in Colorado, his dad in St. Louis, he has a sister in Boston and a brother in New York. His grandmother lives in Arizona and has always been his biggest supporter.

Larry Smith - Late Nights 8 to Midnight

Larry started working at KMMO in 1997 as a weekend overnight announcer.  He soon moved to the 6 PM to Midnight on weekends and then to the Late Night shift Sunday through Friday.  He has also served as the producer and board operator on the "In the Outdoors with Brad and Brian" since the show began.  He has also worked with Joe Aull and Lou Michaels on the "Pigskin Postgame Show, " the "Roundball Wrap-up" and the new "Sports of all Sorts" shows.

Larry has a son, Justin, who is a Missouri Valley College Sophomore and a daughter, Heather, who lives with her husband and their son, Austin, in Tennessee.

Larry enjoys playing guitar, fishing, traveling and listening to many varieties of music.  Along with his job at KMMO, Larry has been an Assistant Manager at Orscheln Farm and Home of Marshall for the past 13 years.

Dan Markle - Overnights, Midnight to 5:30

Dan was born in Belleville, Illinois, a suburb of St Louis in 1981. Dan remained in the area working unfulfilling jobs until the age of 23 when he packed up and moved to Cancun, Mexico.

While in Mexico Dan gained a passion for performance, he worked as an entertainment director for several resorts writing, producing, and hosting nightly shows for several hundred guests a night. While in Mexico Dan survived two hurricanes, Hurricane Emily and Hurricane Wilma, however Hurricane Wilma turned out to be the more destructive of the two, as it left Dan’s place of employment literally lying in ruins.

Dan returned to the states in 2006 with a knack for performance. He enrolled at the prestigious St Louis Broadcast Center and after graduating with a certificate of fine arts he began seeking employment for his first radio job. Dan was enthusiastically hired by KMMO in April of 2008.  He now resides in Marshall.
