With the mercury hovering around zero and below, residents in an area town had to endure a power outage for several hours on New Year’s night.
According to a post on the Carrollton Police Department’s Facebook page, the power outage first was reported about 7 p.m. that affected the entire town.
During the outage, warming centers were set up at the Assembly Of God Church and the Carrollton Junior High School gymnasium.
Just after midnight, an update was posted on the Facebook page that said: “CMU (Carrollton Municipal Utilities) has restored power to all areas of Carrollton, and it appears that all phases of the power grid are holding strong. CMU still has a lot of work ahead to ensure that the power stays on and to start repairs to the plant and will be working around the clock in an attempt to keep the citizens of Carrollton with power.
We are releasing people from the warming shelters and resuming normal city operations.”
KMMO will try to update this story as more information becomes available.
