A traffic stop in Brookfield on Tuesday, January 16, led to an arrest and drug charges being filed against a New Cambria man.
According to a post on its Facebook page, Brookfield Police officers conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of South Main Street.
Upon making contact with the driver, 53-year-old Jonathan Bradley Abeln, officers reportedly observed Abeln reach into his coat pocket several times. Officers checked Abeln’s coat pocket for weapons and allegedly recovered a glass methamphetamine pipe.
K-9 Nitro was called in and reportedly alerted authorities to several areas on the vehicle.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers allegedly recovered 69.5 grams of a crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. “Street Value” of the methamphetamine is estimated at $7,000.
According to online court documents, Abeln has been charged with a Class B Felony for Trafficking Drugs or Attempt in the First Degree and a drug-related misdemeanor. Bond has not been set by the court.
An initial hearing for Abeln at Linn County Circuit Court in Linneus is pending.
