Area students and faculty members attended a proclamation signing last week.
According to a news release from the Sedalia 200 School District, TRiO Upward Bound and TRiO Student Support Services students and staff attended the signing for National TRiO Day on February 20. During the event, Sedalia Mayor Stephen J. Galliher proclaimed February 24 as “TRiO Day” in Sedalia.
TRiO reportedly is the first set of federally-funded programs to address the serious social, economic and cultural barriers to higher education in the United States. The goal for TRiO programs is to help students enroll in and graduate from a post-secondary institution.
State Fair Community College hosts three TRiO programs, including Student Support Services, which serves 160 students each year; and two Upward Bound programs, one of which serves 50 students at Smith-Cotton High School.
