A Waverly woman died in a two-vehicle traffic crash in Lafayette County on Thursday.
A report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol says the crash occurred as a westbound vehicle, driven by 65-year-old James Frazier, of Waverly, reportedly crossed the center of the roadway and impacted the side of an eastbound vehicle, driven by 28-year-old Jessica Williams, of Alma. Williams reportedly tried to swerve her vehicle to avoid the collision. After impact, Williams’ vehicle reportedly ran off the right side of the roadway, overturned and impacted a sign.
A passenger in one of the vehicles, 68-year-old Betty Dyer, who reportedly was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Lafayette County Assistant Coroner Billy Banes at 2:37 p.m.
Frazier suffered serious injuries and was flown by Life Flight helicopter to Truman Medical Center in Kansas City for treatment. Williams and two other persons– 33-year-old Charles Karras, of Alma, and a 1-year-old boy, of Waverly, each suffered moderate injuries. They were transported by Concordia and Lexington E.M.S. vehicles to Lafayette Regional Hospital in Lexington for treatment.
The crash happened just before 2 p.m. on U.S. Highway 24, east of Old Santa Fe Trail.
