During the meeting of the Marshall City Council on Monday, October 1, the council considered approval of the second reading of an updated noise ordinance.
City Administrator David Haugland reminded the council that the first reading of the ordinance, which will repeal Ordinance 7103 and any amendments thereto, was approved on September 17.
He also reminded the council that the city adopted an engine-braking ordinance last year that actually came as a request from a citizen. After a couple of minor changes, the ordinance was approved.

Ward 2 Councilman Kirk Arends said he struggles with the idea of creating a new ordinance.

Despite Arends’ noted concerns, the council approved the ordinance to go into effect by a 5-to-1 margin. Ward 2 and Ward 4 Councilmen Chuck Hines and Tom Hagedorn, respectively, were absent.
