Two Missouri residents sustained injuries in a fiery two-freightliner traffic crash on I-70 in Cooper County on Thursday.
According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred as an eastbound freightliner, driven by 53-year-old Jesse Leach, of Springfield, came to a stop behind a stranded vehicle that was blocking the driving lane of the roadway and reportedly was struck in the rear by another eastbound freightliner, driven by 38-year-old Michael McCoy, of Richmond. After impact, both freightliners overturned and caught fire.
McCoy reportedly was transported by a trooper and Leach via Cooper County E.M.S. to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment of minor and moderate injuries, respectively.
The crash happened just before 11 p.m. at the 111 mile marker.
