A group of Smith-Cotton Junior High students and teachers held a fund raiser recently to help local veterans attend the Missouri Honor Flight program.
According to a news release, the Team Voyagers group at Smith-Cotton Junior High are currently learning about and making a difference in the lives of Missouri veterans. For the school’s annual Day of Service, the students and teachers decided to sponsor one local veteran for the Missouri Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. They organized a fund raiser called “Penny War” in hopes of raising $300 to sponsor a veteran. The results of the fund raiser exceeded the goal, with a total of $644.46 raised.
By more than doubling the goal, the Team Voyagers group will be able to sponsor two veterans from this area for their future flight to the nation’s capital.
