A Smithton man has been charged with drug-related felonies after a traffic stop in Pettis County on Tuesday, December 4.
According to the Sedalia Police Department, at approximately 2:40 a.m., officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of West Broadway Boulevard and South State Fair Boulevard in support of an ongoing drug investigation. The driver, 39-year-old Casey Whitson, reportedly was being investigated for allegedly obtaining large quantities of black tar heroin in the Kansas City area, and delivering the illegal drug back to Sedalia for distribution.
During the stop, a K-9 officer detected the presence of illegal drugs within the vehicle. Officers reportedly located drug paraphernalia and vials of steroids. A detailed search of Whitson’s person began and revealed he was concealing black tar heroin.
Online court documents say Whitson has been charged with a Class C Felony for Delivery of a Controlled Substance and a Class D Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance, as well as a misdemeanor for driving while revoked. Bond has been set at $100,000 cash or surety.
Whitson’s arraignment hearing is scheduled to be held 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5, at Pettis County Circuit Court.
