Missouri State Parks is scheduled to hold a public meeting in regards to a potential name change of a culture center at a state park in Saline County on Monday, December 10.
According to a news release, the one-hour meeting is scheduled to be held at Van Meter State Park to discuss the potential name change of Missouri’s American Indian Cultural Center which begins at 5:30 p.m. The proposed name change is being considered to highlight the contribution of Annie and Abel Van Meter, the property owners who donated the original tract of land to the state in 1932. The American Indian Cultural Center provides information on the park and the nine tribes that lived in Missouri in the early 19th century.
The public is invited to attend to share comments and ask questions about the potential name change, as park staff will be on hand to provide information.
