Dangerous weather traveled through the KMMO listening area throughout the evening on Wednesday, May 22, and the early morning hours on Thursday, May 23.
Packing strong winds, storms triggered tornado watches and warnings issued by the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill.
Outdoor warning sirens were sounded in Marshall at about 7:30 p.m. And tornado warnings were issued and sirens were sounded in several other towns in the area- including Fayette, New Franklin and Boonville, among others.
According to a message from the Cooper County Emergency Management Agency at 8:35 p.m., a possible tornado was spotted on the ground by a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper in western Cooper County.
Also, from the National Weather Service, at 8:15 p.m., a confirmed tornado was spotted on the ground north of Huntsville in Randolph County; and funnel clouds were spotted near Slater in Saline County at 7:40 p.m., Armstrong in Howard County at 8:14 p.m. and two miles west of Huntsville at 8:15 p.m.
Winds were clocked as strong as 60 miles per hour in communities, including just west of Centerview in Johnson County and near Renick in Randolph County.
Large hail was reported, including 3-inch sized hail near Higbee in Randolph County. In addition, there were piles of smaller hail a foot deep; and windshields of cars were punched through; 1-3/4-inch sized hail also was reported in Moberly; and one-inch sized hail was reported near Renick.
In addition, trees were reported down, and a barn and shed were destroyed along Missouri Highway 3, south of Armstrong.
