The American Red Cross in Pettis County (ARC) is offering residents a chance to attended a disaster training class for free in June.
According to a news release, Pettis County ARC is offering the “Shelter Fundamentals” and “Shelter Simulation” class which go hand-in-hand, and require two sessions to complete to receive proper certification. The first session will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 8. The completion of the class will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 15. Both sessions are scheduled to be held at the Church of Jesus Christ LDS at 1201 West Broadway in Sedalia.
The class teaches participants the foundation and standardized methods that every ARC disaster shelter follows closely, which will be a great opportunity for any response-oriented volunteers to get refreshed or introduce the principals to beginners. Whether responding to a small tornado in the area or a National Flood Operation, this class is designed to give participants the confidence and tools to jump in with a team to make a difference in a community in its time of need.
For more information or register for the free class by Wednesday, June 5, call Pettis County ARC at (660) 827-0618 or (660) 287-0055.
