A Missouri Valley College student has qualified for a national debate tournament.
According to a news release, Ethan Hofer-Cassianni posted a record of three wins and one loss, which was enough to advance him to the octofinals round at the Lincoln-Douglas Debate at Washburn University in Topeka, Kan.
By advancing, Hofer-Cassianni is now qualified for the National Forensic Association’s National Tournament in Whitewater, Wis., in April.
In addition, Monika Tshibanda and Eva Agcaoili competed and garnered wins against students from the University of Nebraska, Washburn and Illinois College.
“The debate team came together through their incredible hard work and dedication to help this qualification happen,” debate coach David Bowers said. “I have absolutely no doubt that they will continue to be hard working and supportive of each other in the coming weeks as we prepare for our next tournament.”
