A student died in a shooting incident on an area college campus earlier this week.
According to a news release on the University of Central Missouri’s Facebook page, the University of Central Missouri Department of Public Safety responded to a report of an accidental discharge of a firearm on Monday, November 4, at an on-campus apartment in Warrensburg, which resulted in the death of Stephon Abron, a student from St. Charles.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department and Warrensburg Police Department have been working with UCM Public Safety to investigate the matter. Upon arrival of the officers at approximately 3:30 p.m., it was apparent there was no ongoing threat to the community.
The release also says: “The UCM community is saddened by this tragedy. The university will offer assistance through the counseling center to students who may need support. The Employee Assistance Program is available to assist employees.”
The investigation has resulted in the arrest of a UCM student; however formal charges have not been filed. Per station policy, KMMO News will not release the name of the person arrested until formal charges are filed.
