The Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen approved several items during its meeting on Monday, March 9.
According to meeting minutes, the board approved a bid for mowing of the cemetery. Five bids were submitted- ranging from $1,050 to $3,600 per month. The board voted to accept the bid from Keith and Robert Thomas for $1,100 per month. It is a two-year contract.
Aldermen also were given information about the mowing contract at the park. Four bids were received- ranging from $6,150 to $18,200 per year. The board approved a bid from S&S Mowing for $6,150.
The board also approved a bid for park attendant. Two bids were received, and aldermen went with a bid from Terry Neth for $1,540. It will be payable at $220 per month. The other bid was for $2,795.
The city’s fiscal year begins on April 1, so the proposed budget for 2020-21 was approved. During the public hearing, it was pointed out this year’s budget is very similar to last year’s budget. However, Mayor Franny Vaught did not approve of the budget, so he did not sign it.
Aldermen also gave the green light to several Transient Guest Tax applications and disbursements as presented: $2,500 for the tractor pull; $510 for the Sweet Springs Revitalization projects of Oktoberfest, Winter Weekend and Lighted Christmas Parade; $2,000 to the Winter Trout Program; $3,000 to Mu Omega; $2,400 to the Sweet Springs Festival; $500 to Preceptor Eta Delta; $7,500 to Sweet Springs MotorSports Complex; $990 to the Optimist Club; and $2,000 to the Rookery Theater Sweet Springs Shearing Shenanigans.
