A Marshall man is facing felony assault charges in Howard County.
The Fayette Police Department reports it received a call March 16 from Brad Dixon, Dean of Students at Central Methodist University stating a student at CMU was being threatened by her ex-boyfriend.
The victims claimed she had ended her relationship with 22-year-old Erik Mays during the early morning hours of March 16 at his residence in Fayette. She stated when she broke up with Mays he took her phone and began to abuse her physically and verbally. Mays picked her up and took her outside.
Approximately a hour later, officers received a call regarding a stolen phone. The victim requested the officer to escort her over to Mays’ residence to recover her phone. Mays appeared agitated that the victim had brought an officer and began to make threats towards the victim telling her she was lucky he did not have a gun because he would shoot her.
Later in the afternoon, Mays showed up to the café on campus and continued to make threats towards the victim. The victim contacted Dixon and when he arrived, Mays made threats to him as well. The victim and a friend left the café to go to Dixon’s office. Mays followed them and made the statement, “you can’t save her; I’ll see you later.”
Mays is charged with a Class E Felony for Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree.
Mays’ initial hearing in pending at Howard County Circuit Court.
