Marshall Parks and Recreation Director Chad Unterreiner has issued a release alerting residents about changes within the parks system relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The release says in alignment with the latest guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Department of Health and Missouri State Parks, the Marshall Parks and Recreation Board has made the decision to close all bathrooms, playgrounds, tennis courts, skate park and basketball courts to the public until further notice.
Outdoor activities, such as visiting trails, hiking, biking, fishing, golf, disc golf, horseshoes and using the green space the Parks have to offer are open to the public. When using these amenities, patrons should comply with six-foot of social distancing, also following personal-hygiene recommendations as outlined by the CDC. Patrons showing symptoms should not use the amenities.
Our top priority is ensuring our Parks and Recreation Department can respond to the needs of our community, while taking precautionary steps to maintain the health and safety of our staff. During this period, we will continue to maintain the essential functions of the parks and recreation system. The administration office is closed to the public, but available by phone or e-mail.
Our parks are shared public spaces. Please be mindful of the health and safety of others. If you visit our facilities, please practice the recommendations provided by the CDC to help prevent the transmission of COVID-19. These steps include staying home when you are sick, washing your hands often, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, and avoid close contact with people.
