The Lafayette County Health Department now has a confirmed total of 24 cases of COVID-19 in Lafayette County.
County health officials also report eight persons have recovered. Officials also note the number of total cases reported at the state and federal level show 28. They say this is due to data-entry and address problems in the state’s computer system that they are working on resolving.
The Lafayette County Health Department continues to work with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) and the CDC to identify and contact all people who may have come into close contact (prolonged contact less than six feet away) with the individual confirmed cases while they were infectious.
The health department says is absolutely vital that each individual follows several measures.
· Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60-percent alcohol;
· Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands;
· Stay home if you are sick;
· Cover your coughs and sneezes using your elbow or shoulder rather than your hands; and
· Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces frequently.
Officials urge people to continue to follow current “Stay-At-Home” orders to help protect those in your household and in our community. Stay home if you can. If you are working, be sure you are working at a safe distance from co-workers. If you need groceries or other household necessities, get what you need. Enjoy the outdoors for fresh air. Follow social distancing when away from home. Don’t invite over people for social gatherings. If you suspect that you have COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, it is critical that your healthcare provider or hospital is aware you may have COVID-19 prior to your arrival at a healthcare facility, and that you follow all instructions for arriving at a healthcare facility.
