The driver of a reported stolen vehicle who led law-enforcement officers on a high-speed chase that ended in a fatal crash in Pettis County on March 1 is due in court this week.
A report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol says the crash occurred as a northbound vehicle, driven by 26-year-old Westley Reid, of Clinton, failed to stop for a red light and struck a westbound vehicle, driven by 27-year-old Zackary Hancock Bottom, who was ejected out of his vehicle and later pronounced deceased at a hospital.
Reid has been charged with a Class A Felony for Murder in the Second Degree; a Class B Felony for Driving While Intoxicated; a Class D Felony for Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree; and a Class E Felony for Resisting Arrest for a Felony. Bond remains at $100,000 cash or surety.
Reid was arraigned on March 3. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, at Pettis County Circuit Court.
