The Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force met on Thursday, May 14.
The Pettis County Health Department reported the total number of positive cases of COVID-19 has not risen since last rep0rted on Monday, May 11. The current case count stands at 68 confirmed cases with one pending, two patients are currently hospitalized and there have been no additional deaths due to the virus in the county.
It was also reported the re-opening of businesses continues in Pettis County. The health department is reminding people that masks, social distancing and other protective measures are required, not optional for service at salons, barber shops, nail salons and tattoo parlors. These requirements are not options, but are measures that have been put in place to allow these services to happen when the distance between people is less than six-feet. These measures are for the protection of everyone.
Restaurants in Pettis County will be opening for dining in on Monday, May 18. Not all restaurants are choosing to open based on the state requirement for six-feet of separation among diners. The occupancy limits have much less of an effect than the social distance requirements as outlined in the State Public Health order as well as the County Public Health order.
As of May 18, there are no businesses that are mandated to be closed as long as the business is able to meet the six-feet of separation requirement. If a business would like assistance on how to meet the requirements and provide additional assistance in implementing other protective measures they are urged to contact the Pettis County Health Department.
The decision to open a business within the requirements outlined in the State Public Health order is up to the business owner.
Sheriff Kevin Bond reminds residents that many criminals are “fair weather employees,” and surface during the summer months to take advantage of and prey upon unsuspecting victims. He urges residents to keep doors locked on vehicles, homes, businesses and other buildings. Don’t leave lawn/garden/farming equipment and items unattended, and be sure to close garage doors and fence gates when you aren’t actively present in those areas.
The Pettis County COVID-19 Task Force Briefing is scheduled to be held each Monday and Thursday throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
