At the meeting of the Marshall School Board on Tuesday, May 26, Ryan Trotnic, from Excel Constructors, spoke via Zoom about the Spainhower addition project.
According to unofficial meeting minutes, Trotnic said the weather has been an issue for the company. He said the major steel work has been completed, and the crew is setting decking now, which has to be done before roofing can begin.
He said work has been done inside the existing school and safe rooms. The company is finalizing block work, joist beams and columns are set. Materials are on site, and the workers plan to start the roof on Monday.
Trotnic said masonry walls do not require a lot of wall work, but work can’t be done on them when it is real cold or wet.
Trotnic assured the board he will put the effort and spend extra money out of his budget to go as fast as the company can to get the project back on track.
Administrators broke ground on the addition last August. They are hopeful to have the project completed, so the building can be utilized for prekindergarten, kindergarten and first-grade students at the start of the 2020-21 school year in August.
