During his daily briefing on Monday, Governor Mike Parson announced over $209 million in additional expenditure restrictions due to COVID-19. The Governor said when we started this physical year, the budget for the year was on the anticipated economic growth. However, COVID-19 has had a severe impact on that economic growth.
Governor Parson said the $209 million in expenditure restrictions announced today is in addition to the $220 million that has already been withheld due to budget concerns resulting from COVID-19.
These restrictions include reduced funding for:
- The Office of Administration,
- The Department of Corrections,
- The Department of Health and Senior Services,
- The Department of Social Services,
- The Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development, and
- The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
To help a majority of school districts in the short term, Missouri will be able to utilize $187 million in federal CARES Act funds distributed as Title 1 dollars.
