A felony charge has been filed against a 44-year-old Bosworth man for allegedly attempting to choke a child earlier this year.
According to a report from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, on March 18, investigators discovered there was a choking incident involving Paul Canfield Jr. on or about February 19. A school administrator told authorities he talked with each of the children in the home, and their stories matched, so he felt it necessary to hotline the incident.
Canfield told authorities he put his fingers “flat” on the child’s neck, not “around” the child’s neck. When asked how a red mark or bruise appeared on the child’s neck, he said it was because the child was pulled away from him while his fingers were still on the child’s neck.
Canfield has been charged with a Class D Felony for Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the First Degree. The judge originally ordered no bond.
Canfield pleaded not guilty during his arraignment hearing on Wednesday, June 3. The judge amended bond to $5,000 cash- no 10-percent allowed.
His next hearing is set for 10 a.m. on June 17 at Carroll County Circuit Court.
