COVID-19 grabbed hold of school districts across the state and country in March, and it has not relinquished its grip at this point.
Marshall Public Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Carol Maher hosted a Zoom conference call that included several city and health officials and several other community leaders on Wednesday, June 11, to discuss any ideas and input about how the school district can move forward.
Dr. Maher said the get-together was to gain information and thoughts regarding hopefully getting school started on August 24.

Offering input and some questions were Saline County Health Department Administrator Tara Brewer, Fitzgibbon Hospital President and CEO Angy Littrell, Marshall Mayor Julie Schwetz and City Administrator David Haugland, Salt Fork YMCA CEO Kirk Alexander, Marshall Public School Director of Curriculum and Instruction Diane Gillaspie, as well as Marshall School Board vice president Bryon Jacques.
Schwetz and Haugland talked about what the city and county are doing in the reopening phase. They also covered a number of topics such as mass COVID-19 testing, antibody testing and possible CARES Act funding.
Dr. Maher asked for suggestions for the school district going forward. Littrell said education is key.

Brewer said she agrees with everything Littrell said.

The participants decided it is a good idea for them to meet again to share more ideas and information sometime next month.
