During the meeting of the Glasgow School Board on Tuesday, June 30, the board approved the final budget for the 2019-20 school year. Despite a $53,000 withholding in state funding in June, the district’s ending balances are strong with 34 percent in reserves to begin the new school year.
According to minutes from the meeting, the initial 2019-20 budget proposed significant deficit spending. Due to conservative efforts, the district was able to end the year with positive balances.
The board also approved the preliminary budget for the 2020-21 school year. The preliminary budget proposed projects revenues at $3,765,660 and expenditures at $3,765,662.
The board also reviewed all future district loan obligations through the 2025 school year. Any interested patron is welcome to view a list of these loan obligations in the superintendent’s office.
In other news, the board approved the replacement of the boiler unit in the elementary school. The old unit constructed in the 1960s is highly inefficient and in need of numerous repairs. That unit will be replaced by a new 84- to 86-percent efficient unit. Solomon Boiler Works was awarded the bid at $69,760. The cost of this unit has been included in the 2019-20 budget year, so the ending balance reserve of 34 percent does not change.
The board also accepted the resignation of art teacher Jill Flinn.
