Due to the recent resignation of Saline County Auditory Tara Vogelsmeier, the County Commission appointed Deputy Auditor, Sandra Walter to the position of Interim Auditor, during a special session on Tuesday, July 7, 2020.
Walter was then given the “oath of office” by County Clerk Debbie Russell. Walter has been a county employee since July 2012, starting as a reassessment field appraiser, then transferred to the auditor’s office in November of 2016 as Deputy Auditor. Walter will fulfill the duties of auditor until Governor Parson makes his appointment for the auditor’s position at a later date.
The person appointed by Governor Parson will be selected from recommendations made by the various political committees, as well as any individual who applies for the position through the Governor’s office. That person will serve as auditor for the remainder of the year 2020.
Prior to the General Election in November 2020, the various political committees will once again select one candidate and submit their recommendation to County Clerk Debbie Russell, who will then place those candidate names, according to political affiliation, on the November 2020 ballot to go before the vote of the people.
The results of this election will determine the person who will serve as Saline County Auditor for the remainder of the current unexpired term, which will end December 31, 2022. For more information regarding this process, please contact the county clerk at 886.3331.
