It was recently discovered as part of the ongoing screening of staff, that an asymptomatic staff member at The Living Center in Marshall had been exposed to COVID-19 during a trip outside of the community. The employee was tested and the results were returned as “positive” for COVID-19.
Family members and residents of the facility were immediately contacted by staff members to inform them of the actions being taken. In addition, all state and public health authorities were notified per standard operating procedure. No staff or residents are showing any symptoms of the virus.
Out of an abundance of caution, all staff and residents were tested for the virus on Monday, July 6 with no additional positive results being returned. As an extra precaution, all staff and residents will be tested a second time as directed by the Department of Health and Senior Services. Until a second negative result is returned for all staff and residents, residents will be quarantined to their rooms for their protection and outside visitation is put on hold. Staff are continuing to utilize proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and utilized proper hand hygiene and social distancing where possible, which can be directly attributed to the virus being stopped before any others were infected. Additionally, all residents are monitored for any body temperature, or respiration changes as their vital signs are taken every shift.
It is important to remember the importance that masking, hand hygiene and social distance has in stopping the spread of COVID-19.
