A 26-year-old Clinton man who allegedly caused a fatal crash in Pettis County on March 1 is due for a hearing this week.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred as a northbound vehicle, driven by Westley Reid, failed to stop for a red light and struck a westbound vehicle, driven by 27-year-old Zackary Hancock Bottom, who was ejected out of his vehicle and later pronounced deceased at a hospital. Reid was driving a vehicle that was reported stolen, and was fleeing law enforcement at the time of the crash.
Reid has been charged with a Class A Felony for Second-Degree Murder; a Class B Felony for Driving While Intoxicated; a Class D Felony for Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree; and a Class E Felony for Resisting Arrest for a Felony. Bond remains at $100,000 cash or surety.
The Court denied Reid’s attorney’s motion for a bond reduction on May 5.
On June 15, Reid waived his formal arraignment and pleaded not guilty. On June 21, Reid’s attorney filed a motion with the court for a change of venue. Reid’s next hearing is scheduled to be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 20, at Pettis County Circuit Court.
