The 2020 National High School Finals Rodeo kicked off Friday in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Local teen Karsyn Fuchs, from Marshall, competed Monday in the Goat Tying competition. Fuchs has a good chance at moving on to Thursday’s event to compete for a National High School Rodeo Champion.

Fuchs placed second for her performance on Monday morning with a score of 7.71. For her performance Monday evening, Fuchs came in first with a score of 7.88. As of Monday evening, according to the NHSFR website, Fuchs was in first place in the Goat Tying competition with a combined score of 15.59. There are still two more days of performances to determine who will advance to Thursday’s finals.

In order to earn the title of NHSFR World Champion, contestants must finish in the top 20 – based on their combined times/scores in the first two rounds – to advance to final round Thursday evening. World champions will then be determined based on their three-round combined times/scores.
Competition will continue until Thursday, July 23 and there is a strong showing of contestants rounding out to 1,404 with a little more than 1,800 entries, according to organizers.

Contestants can compete in a knowledge bowl, talent show and a volleyball tournament outside the arena this week. There will be campaigning by NHSRA Student Officer Candidates hoping to be the next student leaders.
