A 28-year-old Marshall man facing felonies after a high speed chase in April has had his case continued until August.
Brett Michael Ortega is alleged to have led law enforcement on a high speed chase during the early morning hours of April 30. After Saline County deputies were instructed to end the pursuit, the vehicle was found stopped on Highway 65 with the engine still running, smoke coming from the engine and wheels and the driver side door open and the driver had fled.
Ortega was arrested at the Marshall Police Department later that day while attempting to file a report that his vehicle had stolen. He was positively identified by a Saline County deputy as the driver of the vehicle.
He is charged with a Class A Felony for Resisting Arrest, Detention, or Stop by Fleeing Creating Substantial Risk of Injury or Death to Any Person. Bond has been fixed at $15,000 cash only.
A Plea/Trial Setting in this case has been continued from Monday, July 13 and is now set to be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, August 24 at Saline County Circuit Court.
