police-lights

Two Hughesville residents have been charged with felonies for allegedly forcing their way into an apartment and one of them assaulting the apartment’s resident on August 6 in Sweet Springs.

According to a police report, the resident said she was woken from sleep to loud banging on her door. She said as soon as she attempted to open the door, it was forced open, knocking her backwards. The woman stated that a female known to her as Jodie Cornine ran through the door and began assaulting her, hitting her in the head, pulling her hair and shoving her backwards. The woman said as she attempted to stop the assault, Cornine’s father, Michael, yelled at her to leave her alone referring to the woman to leave Jodie Cornine alone. The woman said Michael Cornine was standing in the front room blocking the doorway, sealing her only access to safety. The woman also said Michael Cornine had a large pistol on his side, so she feared for her life and the life of her grandson who was asleep in another room.

Authorities noticed the woman had redness on her face, neck and arms, and her left arm was turning purple in places. She was rubbing her arm/wrist area complaining of pain.

Warrants have been issued and Jodie Cornine and Michael Cornine have been charged with a Class B Felony for Burglary in the First Degree. Jodie Cornine also has been charged with a Class E Felony for Assault in the Third Degree. Bond for each has been set at $15,000 cash or surety.

A hearing for each defendant is pending at Saline County Circuit Court.
