A 23-year-old Independence woman has been charged with multiple felonies for allegedly being in possession of numerous drug-related items after a traffic stop on August 20 on I-70 in Lafayette County.

According to a probable-cause statement, with the help of a canine, the law-enforcement officer located multiple Ziploc-style baggies that contained marijuana; another baggie that contained 10.7 grams of psilocybin mushrooms; and two different types of controlled pills. Also located were: Liquid THC in two vape cartridges; a “dime bag” that tested positive for cocaine; and three small vials containing a white substance that tested positive as cocaine. Also, cut straws, a razor blade, a pick and a mirror- all of which had cocaine residue on them- were located.

Lauren McCarty was arrested and has been charged with a Class C Felony for Delivery of a Controlled Substance; two counts of a Class D Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance; a Class E Felony for Delivery of a Controlled Substance; and three drug-related misdemeanors. Bond has been fixed at $15,000 cash only.

McCarty pleaded not guilty during her arraignment on Friday, August 21. Her next hearing is pending at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
