A 45-year-old Lexington man suffered moderate injuries in a two-vessel crash on a waterway in Lafayette County on Sunday.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred as an eastbound Lowe Utility, driven by 52-year-old Paul Bowser, of Lexington, was traveling downstream and a westbound Monster Cat, driven by 51-year-old David Swearingin, of Carrollton, was traveling upstream during a restricted period of visibility due to fog. Both operators were unable to complete evasive action, and the bow of the Lowe Utility impacted the starboard bow of the Monster Cat.

While neither driver was injured, Michael Hutchings, who was not wearing a safety device as a passenger in Bowser’s vessel, was transported to Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence for treatment.

The crash happened at 7:30 a.m. on the Missouri River at the Missouri Highway 13 bridge.
