Marshall Parks and Recreation Director Chad Unterreiner was at the meeting of the city council on Tuesday, September 8, further explaining the possibility for the park to lease out Osage Field for part of this upcoming summer for semipro baseball.
Unterreiner said the league will consist of college-aged players. The lease will be for 25 game nights of 30 total- with the extra five to be used in the event of rainouts. The lease will run from Memorial day through the first week of August. He explained the Beyond Baseball League will not conflict with any games scheduled to be played on Osage Field during that time frame. He also said the league will have security there set up through the Chief of Police.
Ward 2 Councilman Kirk Arends says he’s certainly in favor of the idea.
At the Park Board Meeting on Wednesday, September 2, Unterreiner said the lease is for $5,300 to cover the cost of the use of the field and potential lost revenue from the concession stand.
In the end, Unterreiner received the council’s blessing to proceed.
