A Boonville man has been charged with a couple of felonies after several incidents on July 26 in Cooper County.

According to a report from a Boonville Police officer, at approximately 5:41 a.m., Marquan Dejuan Pitre came to the police department to report he had been involved in an accident somewhere in the area. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate anything.

Approximately three hours later, a man brought in a backpack he had found about two blocks from the police department. A rifle that had been cut off was observed sticking out of the bag, which also contained a Ziploc bag containing 10 grams of a green leafy substance; a debit card belonging to a female; playing cards; $47 in cash; some change; 41 .22-caliber rounds; three packages of Swisher Sweets; and other miscellaneous items.

Later that afternoon, an officer found Pitre passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle near an ATM in the 400 block of East Spring Street. After the officer was able to wake Pitre, he observed a Ziploc baggie containing 30 grams of a green leafy substance, $81, a .22-caliber round and a playing card, which matched items in the backpack.

While an officer was transporting Pitre to University Hospital in Columbia to get a fit-for-confinement order due to him being under the influence of Xanax, the officer said he stopped for a red light and Pitre placed the handcuffs in front, released his seat belt, slid over to the passenger’s side and grabbed the door handle and attempted to push open the door.

Pitre has been charged with a Class D Felony for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and a Class E Felony for Escape or Attempted Escape From Custody while Under Arrest for Felony. Bond has been set at $50,000 cash or surety.

A court proceeding in this case is scheduled to be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15 at Cooper County Circuit Court.
