A 36-year-old Marshall man has been sentenced to spend some time in state prison after a plea bargain in a case in Johnson County.

According to the original police report, Knob Noster Police officers responded to the report of shots fired, and 39-year-old Quincy Thomas had to be transported to a hospital for treatment of life-threateneing gunshot wounds to his abdomen on January 3, 2020. The suspect fled in a vehicle, which was later spotted in Saline County. Luis Lerma jumped out of the moving vehicle and ran at that time, but turned himself into Johnson County authorities a few days later.

Lerma was originally charged with a Class A Felony for Assault in the First Degree; a Class D Felony for Endangering the Welfare of a Child; a Class E Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon; and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action.

According to the plea-bargain agreement, Lerma pleaded guilty to a Class D Felony for Stealing a Controlled Substance or Methamphetamine Manufacturing Material on Monday, September 14.

Lerma was sentenced to three years in the Missouri Department of Corrections, with credit for time already served.

In Saline County, Lerma is facing a Class E Felony for Resisting Arrest by Fleeing; property-damage and driving-related misdemeanors and an infraction. Bond remains at $10,000 cash.

A Preliminary Hearing in the latter case is scheduled to be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, at Saline County Circuit Court.
