The Missouri Valley College men’s soccer team scored two second-half goals and defeated Park University 2-0 in a Heart of America Athletic Conference match on Gregg-Mitchell Field in Marshall on Saturday.

Just over 16 minutes into the second half, MVC was awarded a free kick. Senior midfielder Luka Gluscevic sent a cross into the box, and sophomore forward Paulo Alves headed it into the net to break the scoreless tie.

Missouri Valley extended its lead when Gluscevic came up with a loose ball near midfield lead near the 75-minute mark. He sent a long pass to a running junior forward Aleksandar Trujic, who put a shot past the charging Park keeper for the game-clinching goal.

The Pirates tried to create chances in the final five minutes, and forced sophomore goalkeeper Dusan Milosevic into a pair of saves.

Alves scored his first goal of the season. Trujic added his second goal this season. Gluscevic registered two assists, and now has three assists and a team-high 11 points this season. Milosevic made two saves to earn his third shutout this season. Missouri Valley held a 13-5 advantage in shots in the game, and a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.

The win improves the Vikings to 5-1-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the Heart. Park drops to 2-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference.

Up next, the Valley men’s soccer team is scheduled to host Benedictine at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, on Gregg-Mitchell Field.
