Philip Richard Schaefer, age 86, died November 17, 2020, in Marshall, MO.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Philip to the Saline Animal League or Community Food Pantry, Marshall, MO.

Philip Richard was born May 28, 1934, in Sikeston, Mo, to parents Philip W. and Louise Hill Schaefer. His youth was spent in many locations as his father was in construction for the government. He graduated from Sikeston High School in 1952 and did graduate work at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

In 1954, Philip was wed to Carole Kays. The couple moved to Ohio where they started their family which includes one son and three daughters. They were a devoted couple, together for over 65 years.

Philip was a true entrepreneur, having owned many small businesses, even raising ostriches. For many years he owned and operated Lee’s & Phil’s Appliance Center in Marshall. Philip was blessed with the “gift of gab,” a sharp sense of humor and was known for his repertoire of stories for all occasions. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He will be missed by many, including his wife; his brother-in-law’s, Roger and Jerry Kays of Tulsa, OK; his son Rick (Shirley) Schaefer of Marshall; his daughters, Nan Schaefer of Overland Park, KS; Millie (Mike) Langan of Aurora, CO; Elizabeth (Jerry) Brown of Gilliam, MO; and grandchildren Spencer (Monica) Schaefer of Kansas City, MO; Nicholas (Torie) Schaefer of Marshall, MO; Lucas (Leigh Anne) Schaefer of Grain Valley, MO; Halen (Mandy) Smith of Gilliam; Bradley (Abby) Langan of Aurora, CO; Brittain (Sarah) Smith of Sedalia, MO; Emma (Hugh) Doran of Leawood, KS; Jason (Kathia) Langan of Naples, FL; Jessica (Tim) Manfredi of Raymore, MO; and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law James Kays.
