The Sweet Springs R-7 School Board considered approval of an insurance policy during its meeting on Thursday, December 10.

According to unofficial minutes from the meeting, the Missouri United School Insurance Council (MUSIC) renewal- which covers liability, school board liability, property and equipment, worker’s compensation and treasurer’s bond- is due by December 31 each year. The insurance covers a calendar year as opposed to a school year. The 2021 cost is $57,572, which includes an 8-percent credit.

The board voted to continue to use MUSIC as the district property insurance provider.

In other news, Superintendent Lori Price reminded the board about filing for positions. Filing opens at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, and ends at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. There will be two, three-year term positions and one, one-year term positions open. Candidates will need to declare for which term position they are filing.

Price also said the district imbedded the maximum amount of make-up hours required for inclement weather into the 2020-21 district calendar, so if any days need to be missed for inclement weather, the district will not be required to make up the days missed. At this time, snow days will remain as snow days and will not be distance-learning days.

It also was noted that school will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, December 18, for Christmas break; with classes for students resuming on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
