A 39-year-old Sedalia woman is facing felony charges for allegedly not paying a bill for short-term rental property and forging a document.

According to a probable-cause statement, a woman said she had rented her property to a short-term renter for approximately three weeks. The rental-property owner explained that she was told the rent was supposed to be covered by an insurance claim due to the suspect’s home being declared uninhabitable. The alleged victim provided the renter with an invoice for the property’s nightly price of $135 over the course of 21 dates. The overall cost for the property was $3,068.18.

The owner stated that the renter paid only $600 of the amount owed and still owes more than $2,400.

The suspect also allegedly doctored an invoice.

Court documents say Amanda Rachelle Mejia is charged with Class D Felonies for Forgery and Stealing of $750 or More. Mejia posted $7,500 surety bond on December 29.

Mejia’s initial appearance is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, at Pettis County Circuit Court.
