A 36-year-old Sedalia resident has been charged with a felony for allegedly taking another person’s vehicle without permission on December 29, 2020.

According to a Sedalia Police report, a resident in the 400 block of North Engineer Avenue reported Travis Lawson stole his 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

About an hour later, Lawson was located running in residential yards and climbing over fences. He was taken into custody and took the police officer to the vehicle, which was parked at the intersection of Veterans’ Memorial Drive and West Boonville Street. Lawson, who said he was running because he believed somebody was chasing him, alleged the owner gave him permission to borrow the vehicle.

Court documents say Lawson is charged with a Class D Felony for Stealing a Motor Vehicle. Bond is set at $7,500 cash or surety.

Lawson’s initial hearing is pending at Pettis County Circuit Court.
