Anne M. Hamilton, 96, of Independence, formerly of Sedalia, died Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Truman Gardens Nursing Home in Independence.

She was born March 10, 1924 in Sedalia, a daughter of the late Lester William and Irene (Daugherty) Raines. On September 22, 1940 in Sedalia, she was married to James R. “Jim” Hamilton who preceded her in death on October 4, 2013.

Anne was raised and educated in Sedalia. She was employed 15 years at Sedalia Bank and Trust, which later became Mercantile Bank. She retired as an administrative assistant in 1988. Anne was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, member and past president of Sedalia Business and Professional Women’s Club, past president of Altrusa International, and member of Chapter 57 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a Red Cross Volunteer and charter member of the Bothwell Hospital Auxiliary since 1971.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet Ann Butler, and her husband, Keith of Grain Valley; two granddaughters, Anne Proctor and Amy Miller; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by an infant son, James Duane Hamilton; and four sisters, Mary B. Smith, Juanita M. Morris, Marian Newman and Eleanor Susmilch; and a half brother, William H. Reid.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Crown Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Harper officiating.

Pallbearers will be Keith Butler, Steve Miller, Steven Miller and Garrett Miller. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. Thursday at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel. Memorial donations are suggested to Wesley United Methodist Church, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
