With temperatures remaining in the single digits and to get down to and below zero this evening and overnight, a Wind Chill Advisory has been issued for all of the KMMO listening area.

According to a release from the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office, the National Weather Service has issued the advisory from midnight tonight to noon on Saturday, February 13.

Wind chills are expected to plummet to 15 to 20 degrees below zero.

The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. A prolonged period of cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills will remain possible for the weekend into early next week.

People are urged to use caution while traveling outside. They are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing, a hat and gloves.

Owners of outside pets are urged to bring them inside when temperatures are dangerously cold as they are predicted to be.

The affected area includes Saline, Carroll, Chariton, Cooper, Howard, Lafayette and Pettis Counties.
