Virginia Marie Wessing, age 89, of Pilot Grove, died Thursday, February 25, 2021, at Katy Manor Nursing Home.

She was born April 26, 1931 in Taunton, MA, a daughter of Dennis and Mary (O’Hearn) Mehegan.  On March 1, 1970 in Peru, South America, she married Joseph A. “Jody” Wessing who preceded her in death on June 26, 2013.

Virginia was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Clear Creek.  She served in the Peace Corps, and as a Papal Volunteer in South America with the Diocese of Jefferson City from 1965-1970.  She and Jody sponsored seven children through the Catholic Charities.  She was a nurse and had received her Master’s in education and nursing. In fact, she enjoyed learning and studying new things so she continued to take classes whenever she could.  Virginia loved spending time with her family, animals and working on her family’s genealogy.

Surviving include her nieces and nephews, Lynn Young, of New Hampshire, Judy Green (Tim) of Vermont, Edward Hesford (Grace) of Massachusetts, John Hesford (Pam) of Vermont, Robert Hesford (Laurie) of Vermont, Martha Jean Hartman of Columbia, and C.R. Kammerich of Pilot Grove.

In addition to both of her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn Hesford; one niece, Mary Ann Kraus; two nephews, Edwin Kammerich and Earl Kammerich.

Prayers of the Rosary will be said at 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 5, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clear Creek, followed by visitation until service time.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Phil Kane officiating.  Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Clear Creek.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Joseph School Foundation or Katy Manor Nursing Home.
