A Knob Noster man has been sentenced to two decades in jail for his role in the death of an 18-year-old female last August.

According to the Warrensburg Police Department, Evan R. Lannigan, of Warrensburg, who is now 26, and 28-year-old Christian J. Harrison, of Knob Noster, were charged in connection to the shooting-death of Maliyah Lakey on August 1, 2020.

After responding to a residence to investigate a shooting, officers discovered three shooting victims. The other two victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment of what appeared to be non life-threatening injuries from gunshots.

Harrison’s charges were amended during a court proceeding on March 8. Harrison pleaded guilty to two counts of a Class A Felony for Unlawful Use Of Weapon – Shoot At/From Mv, At Person, Mv, Bldg – Death Or Injury; a Class A Felony Assault 1st Degree Or Attempt – Serious Physical Injury Or Special Victim; a Class D Felony for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm; and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action. The Court sentenced Harrison to a total of 20 years in the Department of Corrections.

Lannigan was arraigned and pleaded not guilty on February 22 to a Class B Felony for Assault in the First Degree; a Class E Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon-Exhibiting; and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action.

A Case Review for Lannigan is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, May 10 at Johnson County Circuit Court. Lannigan continues to be held without bond.
