Marshall, Mo. (April 16, 2021) — The Missouri Valley College Division of Fine Arts will present its annual Spring Music Show on April 22-24 at 7:30 p.m. nightly in the Eckilson-Mabee Theatre. The show will feature the MVC Concert Choir, the Music Theatre Ensemble and their guests: the MVC Repertory Dance Ensemble and Professor Troy Hunt. This is a show the whole family can enjoy.

The evening will open with the dynamic fanfare, “Jubilate Deo” (Sing to the Lord) performed by the MVC Concert Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Cheryl Lines. This portion of the program will be filled with concert works by Missouri composers, folk songs and spirituals but will also include songs from the jazz and pop genre, including a lush arrangement of the James Taylor classic, “That Lonesome Road” arranged by Kirby Shaw. The concert choir will close their portion of the program with a fun swing-style arrangement of the children’s nursery rhyme tune, “Row, Row, Row Your Boat.”

“Covid affected many things this last year including Broadway and live theatre,” stated Diana Malan, director of the Music Theatre Ensemble. “Their portion of the evening will highlight music from classic Broadway shows that were getting ready to come back in revival (Chicago) and shows that were popular and doing well (Wicked, Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen and Mean Girls). The Repertory Dance Ensemble, under the direction of Janie Morgan, will perform a medley from Moulin Rouge, which was a brand new show set to open on Broadway.”

The Music Theatre Ensemble will close the show with a set of Disney music that they were working on last year, but didn’t get to perform because of the Covid-19 pandemic, to celebrate Disney’s 25th celebration of their shows on Broadway.

The MVC Repertory Dance Ensemble will also perform the Pentatonix arrangement of, “Amazing Grace” and Professor Troy Hunt will take the stage singing, “Mr. Cellophane” from Chicago.

The April 22 and 23 shows are restricted to the MVC Community.  The April 24 show is for the family of the performers. The April 23 show will be live streamed via https://portal.stretchinternet.com/mvc/

It can be watched as it is happening or at your convenience “on demand.” Admission is free.  Limited seating is available and masks are required. The house opens at 7:00 p.m. for seating.
